Apex Run

A time trial on three circuits - no drift score, just pace. Crossover is a figure of eight whose middle is quick and blind, Harbor Sweep is long and fast with a kink halfway down each straight, and Stonecut joins two hairpins with two sweepers. Hit every gate, grab the teal boost pads on the corner exits, and keep all four wheels on the tarmac, because cutting the grass costs more than it saves. Each circuit keeps its own best lap and its own ghost, so your fastest run races alongside you on the track you set it on.

How Apex Run works

Apex Run is a three-lap time trial on a closed circuit, seen from above. There are no rivals — the clock is the opponent, and the track is scattered with timing gates that split your lap into sections so you can see exactly where the time went rather than only what the total was.

Two things decide a lap. The teal boost pads, which sit on corner exits where the extra acceleration is worth the most, and the tarmac itself: put a wheel on the grass and the drag pulls you back hard enough that a shortcut is almost never a shortcut. Braking before the corner and carrying the speed through it beats braking in it, which is why the pads reward a clean exit line.

There are three circuits, picked on the start screen with Q and E or by tapping the arrows. Crossover is the figure of eight, quick and blind through the middle; Harbor Sweep is long and fast with a kink halfway down each straight; Stonecut joins two hairpins with two sweepers, and punishes a late brake more than anywhere else.

Each circuit keeps its own best lap on this device, and its own recording of it: the ghost car you race against is your previous best on that circuit, replayed thirty times a second, with the split at each gate telling you whether you are up or down on it. Beating yourself by a tenth is the whole game.

Tips for Apex Run

  • Every gate counts. Missing one costs more time than taking a corner slightly slower.
  • Aim for the teal boost pads on the exits of corners, where the extra speed is most useful.
  • Keep all four wheels on the tarmac. Cutting the grass looks shorter but the clock punishes it.
  • Three circuits share one car: press Q or E on the start screen, or tap the arrows, to pick one. Each keeps its own best lap and its own ghost.
  • Stonecut's hairpins reward braking earlier than feels right — the exit is where the lap is won, because the sweeper after it is long.
