Bladespin

A log turns at the top of the screen and every tap throws a blade up into it. The blade bites where it lands and turns with the log from then on, so the wood fills up as you go — and a blade that hits one already there bounces off with a clang and ends the run. Throw every blade of a stage and the log bursts apart. Apples sit on the rim for a bonus if you can hit them, later logs come with blades already stuck in, turn faster, wobble, stop and spin back, and every fifth stage is a boss log that lurches in fits and starts. One finger, a second per throw, and a score that climbs as long as your timing holds.

How Bladespin works

A log turns at the top of the screen and you hold a stack of blades at the bottom. Tap anywhere to throw one: it flies straight up and sticks in the log at the bottom of its turn, then turns with the log. The counter on the left shows how many blades this stage still wants.

The one rule is not to hit steel. If a blade lands on, or right next to, one that is already in the log, it bounces off and the run is over. As the log fills up the gaps get smaller, so watch for an opening to come round and throw into it.

Throw every blade and the log bursts; the next one asks for more blades, may already have some stuck in it, and turns faster — some wobble, some stop and turn back. Every fifth stage is a boss log that lurches between bursts of speed and stillness. Apples on the rim are worth five points each, a cleared stage a bonus, and your best score is kept in this browser.

Tips for Bladespin

  • Watch the gap, not the blades. Throw when the widest gap is just about to reach the bottom of the log.
  • A blade takes a moment to fly up, so throw a little before the gap arrives, more so when the log is turning fast.
  • When the log slows to turn back, that pause is the safest moment to throw.
  • On the boss log, wait out a burst of speed and throw in the stillness after it.
  • Apples are worth going for early in a stage, while the log still has plenty of open wood.
  • Never throw twice in a hurry. One clean throw at a time keeps the run going.
