How Klondike Solitaire works
Seven columns are dealt, the last card of each face up, and the rest of the deck waits as the stock. The goal is to build the four foundations up from ace to king, one suit each. On the columns you build downward in alternating colours — a red six on a black seven — and a run of cards can be moved together as long as it is already in order.
An empty column is a working space, and only a king (or a run headed by one) may move into it. Turning the stock gives you one card at a time or three, depending on the draw mode; in draw-three only the top of the fan is playable, which makes planning matter more.
Not every deal can be solved, so ours are numbered: the number sits next to the clock and Replay deals that exact game again, as many times as you like. If the board truly has no move left the game says so rather than letting you hunt, and the hint button points out a move that makes progress — one that turns a card over or feeds a foundation — instead of any legal move at all.
Tips for Klondike Solitaire
- Turning over hidden tableau cards comes first. Free the biggest piles early.
- Only empty a tableau column when you have a King ready to move into it.
- Tap a card to auto-send it to the best spot, and undo freely to test ideas.
