Steady Aim

Target archery with a crosswind. Hold to draw the bow — the longer you hold, the flatter the arrow flies — tilt or drag to set the angle, and let go. The flag shows how hard the wind is lifting or dropping your shot, so aim off it. Six arrows an end; score enough and the target moves further back and shrinks.

How Steady Aim works

You shoot six arrows an end. Holding draws the bow: the bar fills over about a second, and a fuller draw means a faster, flatter arrow. Letting go looses it, and the angle you set decides the rest.

The face scores from 10 in the gold to 1 on the outer white ring, and a miss is nothing. Arrows stay where they landed so you can see your group and correct for it.

The flag by the target is the whole game. It shows a crosswind in metres per second that lifts or drops the arrow on its way, and the dotted guide deliberately ignores it — the guide is the still-air shot, so the difference is yours to judge. Clear the score an end demands and the next target stands further back and smaller.

Tips for Steady Aim

  • Aim off the wind, not at the gold. A lifting wind wants a flatter shot; a dropping one wants you to aim higher.
  • A full draw flies flatter and is less bothered by the wind, but the bar takes a second to fill — on a gusty end a quick half-draw with more elevation can be safer.
  • The dotted arc ignores the wind on purpose. It shows where the shot goes with still air, so the gap between it and where you land is the wind's doing.
  • Score enough and the target moves back and shrinks. The extra distance costs more elevation than you expect.
