Riftcut

One finger, no buttons. You never walk in Riftcut: you dash, straight to wherever you tap, and every foe on that line is cut in two. Hold your finger down and time slows to a crawl while you line up the next strike, then let go to cut. Dashes come from three charges that refill on their own, and every cut hands one straight back — so the way to stay alive is to keep cutting, chaining kills for a combo of up to eight times the points. Orange foes carry a shield that turns the blade, so you go round and take them from the side; yellow ones blow up when cut and take everything near them; violet ones hang back and shoot. A wave, a breath, the next wave, more of them each time.

How Riftcut works

You stand still until you strike. A tap anywhere sends you dashing in a straight line to that point, up to about half the arena away, and any foe the line passes through is cut. While you dash nothing can touch you. Hold your finger down instead of tapping and time slows to a quarter while a dashed line shows where you will go; let go and you strike. Slow time is limited — the blue bar under the wave number — and refills while you are not holding.

Every dash spends one of three charges, shown as dots under you. They refill on their own, but slowly; every foe you cut gives one back at once. Cuts made close together build a combo, up to eight times the points, and a hit ends it. You have four hearts, and every third wave gives one back.

Pink foes run straight at you. Violet ones keep their distance and fire slow shots — dash through a shot rather than away from it. Orange foes hold a shield on the side that faces you and turn it towards you as you move: dash into it and you bounce off, so go round and cut them from the side. Yellow ones blow up a moment after they are cut and take every foe in the dotted ring with them, which is the best way to clear a crowd — just make sure the blade carries you clear of the blast. Your best score is kept in this browser.

Tips for Riftcut

  • Line foes up before you strike. One dash through three of them is three charges back and a combo.
  • Holding the finger down slows time but costs focus. Use it to aim the hard cuts, not every one.
  • A shot cannot touch you while you dash, so dash through it instead of running from it.
  • Shields turn slowly. Dash past one to its side, then cut back across it before it faces you again.
  • Cut a yellow foe in the middle of a crowd and dash on past it: the blast clears the rest for you.
  • Out of charges? Wait a beat rather than tapping — a red flash under you means the tap did nothing.
  • Stay near the middle. In a corner every dash has fewer places to go.
